Season Overview
The fourth season is set 18 months after season three. Jack is now working for Secretary of Defense James Heller after being fired by CTU due to his heroin addiction. As the day begins, he gets caught up in an elaborate terrorist plot which involves James Heller and his daughter Audrey Raines.

Categorical Breakdown
Characters are judged solely by their loyalty and effectiveness in the field. The plot centers on a foreign terrorist threat and does not vilify the majority culture or lecture the audience on privilege. Diversity within CTU is treated as standard and merit-based.
The narrative is rooted in a desire to protect the American homeland. National institutions and the Secretary of Defense are portrayed as essential shields against chaos. There is no framing of Western history or values as fundamentally evil.
Female characters like Audrey Raines and Michelle Dessler are capable professionals who work alongside men without the need to emasculate them. The show avoids 'Girl Boss' tropes, maintaining grounded gender dynamics where masculinity is portrayed as protective.
The season focuses on traditional heterosexual relationships and the nuclear family structure. There is no presence of gender ideology, queer theory, or alternative sexuality messaging throughout the storyline.
